Shari Lyon paints with beeswax! Encaustic art is one of the oldest forms of art. Most people are not familiar with the word encaustic. It's painted with a specific mixture of beeswax and damar resin. Painting with hot, melted wax, Shari also incorporates the use of oil paints, pan pastels, oil sticks, photography, and drawings. She loves the smell of the melted beeswax that fills her studio!

The process requires Shari to have both patience and spontaneity. It's a rare marriage of being in control and completely losing control. It's labor intensive, and there are many steps involved. What Shari loves most about encaustic is that the outcome is a dreamy, ethereal image with texture and appeal, unlike any other art form. She wishes everyone could see encaustic works in person to really appreciate all they have to offer. Photos rarely do them justice.

Shari is often drawn to the imagery and symbolism of trees, but she often plays with other themes that are important to her as well, such as beautiful loose landscapes, and women’s themes are common imagery she works with.

Shari was the recipient of the 2017 International Encaustic Association Emerging Artist Scholarship. She has had pieces in different shows at the Springville Museum of Art. She has pieces sold through New Vision Art, Deseret Book, Art Access in Salt Lake City, EFGallery in Sacramento, UGallery, Raitman Galleries in Breckenridge and Vail, and The Marshall Gallery in Scottsdale as well as in many other shows and events. Her pieces can be found in private collections in Canada, across the US, and Croatia.
